2008 is the 12th year for the Louisiana Living History Project under the auspices of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. For Christmas New Orleans Style, costumed characters from Louisiana history return in tableaux to New Orleans at a variety of locations in the historic French Quarter, entertaining and educating visitors and locals with tales, songs and dances. Characters tell their individual stories, giving visitors a chance to learn more about them as real historical people. See our 2008 Roster.

Four Lieutenant Governors

Baroness Pontalba escorted
by General Andrew Jackson.

The members of the Living History Project are not merely actors in costume. They become the characters they portray and create intimate street theatre. They never break character while on duty. They research historical information to incorporate into daily conversation, and are further educated by docents from historic homes and museums in the French Quarter. The actors also receive training on architectural and social history of the French Quarter and convey a "a day in the life" of their characters. They also perform period and holiday tunes.

For Christmas New Orleans Style, produced by French Quarter Festivals, Inc., the characters appear Thursdays through Sundays in December starting at 11 am in the Hotel Monteleone lobby, then they stroll Chartres and Royal streets to Jackson Square, the National Park Service Visitor Center and the French Market. They visit historic homes, museums, restaurants and hotel lobbies including the Ritz Carlton, Royal Sonesta, Omni Royal Orleans, Marriott Hotel, Bourbon Chateau, Bourbon Orleans and Canal Place. On Christmas Day in Jackson Square, they greet people in front of St. Louis Cathedral.

Gloria Powers is the Company Manager for the Louisiana Living History Project. Contact Gloria to book characters for your event, any time of year! Historic characters are available for bookings for special events, receptions, and promotions. Availability of individual characters depends upon the actor’s schedule.
